Are You a Chocomaniac? Carbo Craver? Survey Says DIET PERSONALITY Might Be Key to New Year's Resolutions Success

Syosset, New York - What's your diet personality - and how will it help you keep a New Year's resolution to lose weight?

Psychologists Glenn and Sharon Livingston of Executive Solutions have the answers after recently completing a nationwide study of 1,500 people on the relationship between diet and personality type. They conclude that personality strongly influences success on certain types of diets, particularly around the New Year.

"Statistically, people tend to 'cluster' into one of five groups, distinguished by the foods that they crave AND the feelings behind the cravings," said Dr. Glenn Livingston, CEO of Executive Solutions. Here are the five clusters, along with their "mottos":

Chocomaniac™: "When the going gets tough, the tough eat chocolate!"

French Fry Head™: "Yes, I DO want fries with that."

Food for Fun™: "I'm bored! What do you have to eat?"

Food Finesser™: "Everything in Moderation"

Carbo Craver™: "Pass the Pasta - But Better Hold the Butter!"

"Chocomaniacs eat chocolate and sweets when they feel unloved. French Fry Heads eat fatty-starchy-fried foods when they are angry or overwhelmed. Food for Fun people eat anything that tastes good when they're bored, and Carbo Cravers grab for pasta and bread when they haven't had enough time alone," explained Dr. Sharon Livingston.

Beyond one's personality, the study showed differences which predict who will make a New Year's diet resolution and who will keep one. If you own a dog or have kids at home, you're more likely to make a New Year's diet resolution than if you own a cat or have no kids. And you'll probably comply better if you're compassionate (towards yourself for mistakes), social, manage time well, have a good memory and can make and keep other non-food based commitments.

Of the 38 percent of the population that makes dieting New Year's resolutions, about one in five will succeed long-term.

"If these traits aren't "you," don't despair," said Dr. Glenn Livingston. "Instead of making a dieting New Year's resolution, resolve to work on the qualities of winners so when you do diet, you're more likely to succeed."
